Electric fence pricing in Kenya varies a lot between suppliers, partly because plot sizes vary and partly because "electric fence" means different things to different installers, some quotes include razor wire and proper earthing, some quietly don't. Here's what real, full-scope pricing looks like by plot size, based on our own current pricing.

Baseline Pricing by Plot Size

These figures are for full supply and installation of an electric fence with razor wire on a standard boundary, the most common configuration for residential compounds across Nairobi and its surrounding towns.

Larger, irregular-shaped, or multi-boundary plots (a property with two separate fenced sections, for instance, or an L-shaped boundary) are quoted after a free site survey rather than by a flat rate, because wire length and post count stop scaling predictably once a boundary isn't a simple rectangle.

What's Actually Included in That Price

• •Energizer: A mains or battery-backup Nemtek or Stafix unit sized correctly for the fence length, not a generic default.
• •Fence wire: Galvanised or aluminium wire, typically 9 to 12 strands depending on wall height and risk profile.
• •Bracket arms: UV-stabilised brackets for wall-top or post-mounted installation.
• •Warning signage: The legally required signs at intervals along the full run, not just at the gate.
• •Earthing: A dedicated earth spike system, separate from household electrical earth.
• •Testing and handover: Output voltage verified at multiple points before the system is signed off.

What Pushes the Price Up (and Why That's Sometimes Worth It)

A few common additions sit outside the baseline pricing above, and it's worth budgeting for them upfront rather than being surprised mid-project:

1. 1.Zone monitoring and alarm integration: Splitting the fence into independently monitored zones and wiring a siren or SMS alert adds hardware and labour but turns a passive deterrent into an active one that tells you when it's been touched.

Why Cheaper Quotes Are Sometimes Cheaper for a Reason

It's common to get a quote well under the figures above from a smaller operator. Sometimes that's a genuinely competitive price. Often, it's a scope difference: no razor wire included, a lower-strand-count fence, an undersized energizer, no dedicated earthing, or warning signage limited to a single sign at the gate. None of those savings show up on the invoice as an exclusion, they just show up later as a fence that underperforms or fails a compliance check.
