Seven Questions to Ask Any Security or Solar Installer Before You Sign Anything

This list is meant to protect you, not sell you on any particular company. Ask every one of these questions to any installer quoting you, ours included, before you pay a deposit. A supplier who answers all seven clearly and without hesitation is worth trusting. One who deflects two or three of them is worth walking away from.

  1. 1.Will you visit my property before quoting, or is this a phone quote?: A serious installer needs to see your site to size equipment correctly, whether that's camera coverage angles, fence zone layout, or roof orientation for solar panels. A quote given without a site visit is a guess.
  2. 2.What standard do you install to?: For electric fencing specifically, ask directly whether the installation follows recognised technical standards covering energiser output and safe clearances. A vague answer here is a warning sign.
  3. 3.Can I see proof you're an authorised dealer for this brand?: Counterfeit and grey-market equipment is common in the Kenyan market. Authorised dealers can usually produce documentation from the manufacturer or regional distributor.
  4. 4.What exactly is included in this price?: Ask whether the quote covers supply only, or supply and installation, and whether cabling, mounting hardware, and testing are included or billed separately later.
  5. 5.What's the warranty, and who honours it?: Get this in writing before paying anything. Ask specifically what's covered (equipment failure, workmanship, or both) and for how long.
  6. 6.What happens if something fails a year from now?: Ask about call-out response times and whether after-sales support costs extra. A company that can't answer this clearly may not exist in a year.
  7. 7.Can you give me a written, itemised quotation?: Not a verbal estimate, not a WhatsApp voice note, an actual document listing equipment, brand, quantity, and price. If a supplier resists putting numbers in writing, that resistance is itself information.

None of these questions are unusual or aggressive to ask. A competent, confident installer will have straightforward answers to all seven, usually without needing to check with anyone. Hesitation, vagueness, or pressure to skip ahead to a deposit are the signals worth paying attention to.

We publish real installed pricing on our services page specifically so you can compare it against any other quote you receive using the questions above.
